About our Gallery

The St. Mary’s County Arts Council Gallery & Gift Shop was established in 2017 with the mission of supporting and promoting local artists.

By offering dedicated space for artists to exhibit and sell their work, we aim to foster a thriving arts community and provide artists with greater exposure.

This program not only enables artists to reach new audiences but also allows local residents and visitors to engage with the artists and purchase unique, locally-made artwork.

Location: 22660 Washington St., Leonardtown, MD 20650 (next to Leonardtown Town Hall)

Open Wednesday - Saturday from 11 AM to 4 PM. Extended hours until 8 PM on First Fridays and for special events.

  • Each accepted visual artist is allowed up to one hanging wand of space which is generally:

    • One XL piece (max 36” in any direction)

    • Two large pieces (16x20 or similar)

    • Three medium pieces (11x14 or similar)

    • Four small pieces (8x10, 5x7, or similar)

Art must not exceed 36” in any direction nor be excessively heavy.

For smaller shelf-type items such as pottery, jewelry, and greeting cards we have an “as space available” policy which will fluctuate depending on our current inventory.

Jewelry items must be accompanied by an appropriate display holder.

All wall art must be framed and ready to hang either with a wire (must not be visible above piece) or a saw-tooth hanger. Sculpture pieces must be able to stand alone, or a suitable display system must be provided.

ALL art must be of a family-friendly nature.

  • See the form below to complete a short application and upload five images of your artwork.

Our Gallery Manager will contact you within 2 weeks of the time of your submission.

If your art is accepted, we will send you a link to make an appointment to bring in your work to be reviewed in person. Final selections of your pieces will be made at that time.

If your work is not accepted, we will notify you within the same time frame. Usually, artwork is not accepted because we are at capacity for a certain type of media or work is considered to be too similar to current items.
