St. Mary’s County Arts Council and the Town of Leonardtown host an Art Walk contest every September. This event celebrates Leonardtown’s designation as an official Arts & Entertainment District of Maryland.

Local artists are invited to submit their work for display at a downtown Leonardtown businesses for the month of September.

The Art Walk event is an exciting opportunity to view art in a wide variety of media and styles, with generous prizes awarded to the winners!

Stop by any of the businesses on the map, pick up a ballot, get the ballot stamped at three different locations, and select your three favorite pieces of art! You can select art from ANY of the businesses as long as you visit at least three different shops.

Deadline for Submissions: July 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM (or once 30 pieces are accepted)

Official launch date: First Friday, September 4, 2026

Exhibit Run Dates: September 2026

Guidelines:

• By completing the form below, you agree to the guidelines and provide permission for the use of images of your work for promotional purposes.

• One entry may be submitted per person. Artists must be a resident of St. Mary’s, Calvert, or Charles county.

• This contest is for artists age 18 and up. Our Youth Art Month show is featured every March.

• Wall art must not exceed 30" in any direction, including the frame, and must have a sawtooth hanger or wire on the back. Sculptures will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Canvas pieces may be unframed but the sides must be painted/finished.

• All pieces must be family-friendly.

• All pieces must be finished at the time of submission (not in progress).

• A $10 Art Walk fee is due at the time of delivery of the art piece. The delivery period is June 17 - July 30, 2026 at St. Mary’s County Arts Council Gallery & Gift Shop, 22660 Washington St., Leonardtown, MD 20650.
