Sensory Path Blooms at Local Arts Park!

Students from Chopticon High School created beautiful designs for a new nature-themed sensory path at Lexington Manor Passive Park!

A sensory path is a structured, interactive path designed to help children engage their senses, along with whole body movements, in a fun and purposeful way. The path is a piece of art, adding color and vibrancy to the surrounding area.

A sensory walk combines physical movements with multi-faceted sensory input to support important skills such as motor development, self-regulation, and focus on tasks at hand.

Designated as an official "Arts Park", Lexington Manor Passive Park offers community walking paths, fitness stations, a disc-golf course, a community garden, regularly hosts local festivals and events, and more. We hope to see you there!

This project is the collective result of partnerships with St. Mary’s County Arts Council, St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks, and Chopticon High School.

“I am extremely pleased that the path has come to life. It is a goal I have had for many years to enhance the inclusiveness of our parks. I hope that the path at LMPP continues to grow and touch more senses and it will act as a model for paths in other parks.” - Christina Bishop, Project Manager, St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks
