An Important Message from Susie Glauner: Charting Our Tomorrow

Happy Autumn!

As 2025 draws to its end, we are taking time to reflect on our successes and challenges as well as looking ahead to what possibilities 2026 will bring.

We have big plans for 2026, including opening the Carver Community Arts and Makerspace, installing more public art and growing our own organization to support more ART for St. Mary's County.

While this naturally involves fundraising, it also includes making The Arts a priority for our county's leadership and strategic planning.

The St. Mary's County Department of Land Use and Growth Management is currently collecting input from residents to help shape the county's next strategic plan. This open comment period is the final opportunity to submit feedback, so we encourage you to participate asap!

Why is this important to SMCAC? The strategic plan helps guide county government and departments' priorities as well as informs the zoning process to reflect the wishes of the residents.

Why is this important to SMCAC? This is our opportunity to voice our desire for increased support for The Arts in our county. If enough people respond and show how much The Arts matter, the better our chances when we request additional funding, support and awareness for The Arts!

Please take a few minutes to visit the "Charting Our Tomorrow" site and share your feedback. Not sure what to say? Just copy the information below and paste it into the feedback form.

"As a St. Mary's County resident, I request more support for the arts in our community.

  • PRIORITIZE FUNDING for the arts and the St. Mary's County Arts Council as our county's designated arts agency.

  • INCENTIVIZE economic development and cross-industry cooperation to include public art and creative collaborators to CULTURALLY ACTIVATE our public spaces.

  • ENCOURAGE CREATIVE PLACEMAKING to highlight our cultural jewels and drive tourism.

  • IMPROVE the QUALITY OF LIFE for all St. Mary's residents and visitors by making arts and arts experiences more plentiful and available.

  • RETAIN the talented WORKFORCE of St. Mary's County by providing a comprehensive range of arts and cultural activities to engage workers and their families."

Artfully yours,

Susie Glauner
